Your Osaka private tour from Kobe has been designed with intent, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t flexible

This tour’s been designed to show Osaka’s Best and Brightest, but with an approach and flow that’s balanced. There’s that famous castle of ours (where’s your castle, Kobe?), and an often overlooked temple on lovely grounds with a much older design than found in Kyoto. There are also views aplenty, and of course all the boisterous Osaka-style entertainment and shopping district you care to enjoy. Flexibility is something else we also have lots of. You want to see how Osaka’s famous cutlery and maybe even buy some? Interested in visiting one or two quiet gardens? How about comparing our landmark Shinto shrine vs. the standard itinerary’s Buddhist temple? Give us the word and we’ll make changes.

Osaka has a good reason to be famous for food

Denying you the experience of Osaka’s famous food culture would be a travesty. We’re happy to show you to an Okonomiyaki place for lunch, or most anything else you might enjoy more. We don’t have a fixed restaurant stop, and we have lots of local knowledge, so it will be our pleasure to consult with you when lunch time comes around. When it comes to food, it’s not just about eating, but also about seeing: Over the day’s touring, you’ll see one or two food markets and, if you like, Doguyasuji, a famous restaurant supply district that both visitors and locals alike find interesting.

Easy as can be

Having visited many of Osaka’s “Things to See” -- and maybe even a few write-ins as well -- it will be just about time to wrap things up. Hopefully Osaka will not only have lived up to your expectations, but brought you to LOVING it. This is our plan, at least! Don’t forget about that night tour if you’re interested in a delicious and entertaining nighttime version of an Osaka adventure. The night tour goes to neighborhoods that are completely different from the day tour, and vividly shows a very different scene. It's about as close as you can get to being a local.

Itinerary

A visit to Osaka Castle is an essential part of any Osaka private tour from Kobe, and it’s also a fair claim that this is the most iconic spot of historical significance in Osaka. We’ll take in the surrounding Osaka Castle Park as well, talking about history, design, and the overall significance of the Castle property. The castle’s rebuilt interior is a disappointment, so we recommend giving it a miss. Trust us with this one. We’ll spend about 75 minutes here.

Shintennoji is cited as the oldest Buddhist temple in not only Osaka, but in Japan too. Intermittent waves of attack from both man and nature have resulted in great damage at times, the important buildings have always been reconstructed as they largely looked over the roughly fifteen centuries of Shitennoji history. Buildings and open spaces are very deliberately designed, and the timelessness often strikes a chord with visitors. Buddhism came to Osaka and Japan first from Korea (go back more to find China and then India at the root), so the design differences as compared to Kyoto are noteworthy. We spend around 45-75 minutes here, depending on if the garden is open.

Come head up Osaka’s tallest building (please note the caveat: While it’s the tallest building in Japan, it is not the tallest tower, which would be the Skytree in Tokyo). We won’t ascend to the top floor of this 300m building, instead going high enough using the building’s glass elevators to afford a quick and easy, free (!) view from above. Next we’ll dive down to the underground levels for a mouth-watering, instructive walk-n-talk through a high end Japanese department store food hall. Here we’ll see hunger pang inducing prepared foods, both Japanese and Western sweets, plus a large and varied selection of seafood and raw meats for shoppers to cook at home. About 90 minutes here, possibly more depending on lunch.

Fun for both kids and adults awaits in Shin-sekai’s boisterous and, in some ways, carnival-like atmosphere. Not visiting Shin-sekai while visiting Osaka would be to miss out on a genuine, classic part of the city. In the 1920s-1930s, it was a very popular amusement park, but then hard times hit, but then more good times, oh but more more hard times, and now the place is solidly back enjoying good times. Games, food, fashion (“fashion” be a subjective matter), and that distinctive Osaka aura. For most, a visit to Shin-sekai is never forgotten. About 30 minutes of strolling about here.

In consultation with you, we’ll choose from different spots in this neighborhood, but the always-popular include Kuromon Ichiba (a seafood open market street with an emphasis on the  ready-to-eat), but also funky back streets, the restaurant and kitchen supply district, and finally we’d be very poor guides to not show you around the Dotonbori area proper if you haven’t seen it already. 1 to 1.5 hours.

Historic and Cultural Landmarks

What grander a symbol of Osaka’s history and immense power from long ago than Osaka Castle? Also, the entertainment and commercial districts we immerse you in speak volumes about the great prosperity Osaka enjoys today. Honorable mention to Japan’s oldest and iconic Buddhist temple, Osaka’s Shitennoji!

Easy Access

We pick you up and drop you off at either your lodging in central Kobe or at the port. How easy is that? If you choose to also come on the night tour, we drive you back to Kobe after that.

Get to know some of our guides

We’re proud to have a diverse team of personable, knowledgeable guides fluent in both English and Japanese, serving travelers across multiple regions of Japan. Here, you’ll get to know just a few of the exceptional people who bring our tours to life.

Laura

Guide in Kansai Region
Japan has always been a dream of mine; and it certainly hasn’t disappointed. I’ve now been living on this beautiful island for over seven years! Originally from France, I’ve always been fascinated by Japan’s deep culture, timeless beauty, and the authenticity of its people. Over time, I truly fell in love with the Kansai region, not only for its incredible variety of food, but also for the many warm and memorable encounters I’ve had here. That’s why I’m so excited to share this unique journey and experience with you during our tours!

Kensuke

Guide in Hiroshima Region
Based in Hiroshima, Kensuke has a deep appreciation for the city’s unique atmosphere, rich history, and incredible food. He enjoys exploring the roots of Japanese culture and traditions, and through his guiding, he aims to share not only historical facts but also the values and character that define the Japanese people. His goal is to convey perspectives and insights that only a native Japanese person can truly express.

Ferdinand

Guide in Kansai region
A native of France by birth, I have, for the past seven years, made my home in the city of Osaka, having previously resided in Tokyo. Combining my love for Japan, its rich traditions and culinary delights, and the simple pleasure of walking and meeting new people, I decided to pursue a career where I can have these fervent passions shared with others; because I am deeply in love with the somewhat timeworn charm of Osaka’s post-war industrial visage, and the mysterious and quiet charm of its labyrinthine alleyways.

Michelle

Guide in Tokyo Region
Taiwanese-Italian by heritage, Japan resident for the last 10 years, and lifelong fan of a good story. Though I’ve lived here long enough to know the quiet backstreets and the best local snacks, I still explore with the curiosity of a first-time visitor. Fluent in English (it’s the language I’ve always lived in), plus Japanese and Italian, I’m the kind of guide who makes you feel like you’re catching up with an old friend, the one who just happens to know all the history, hidden corners, and how to get the perfect photo.
